When I began training in the Martial Arts in 1974 one of the key principles that was imparted to me was the concept of helping others and passing on the knowledge I was being given. The Martial Arts traditionally has at its core improving oneself and helping others improve themselves as well as being the best that you can be in life and in that process helping as many people as possible. In 1992 while I was training in Hapkido and Combat Hapkido I was injured with a partially dislocated hip. With my injury I was stuck walking with a cane and this began my journey into creating my Warrior Combat Cane System and helping hundreds of Wounded Warriors and Veterans.
One of my Hapkido Instructors began teaching me Jang-Sul, the Hapkido weapon of using the hooked cane. I was “hooked” from the first lesson and engrossed myself in as many forms of cane fighting and Martial Arts Systems from Korea to Japan and France as well as multiple stick fighting systems. In 1997 I began teaching my Warrior Combat Cane System to private students as well as at a few senior living homes. In 2000 I was introduced to Grand Master Mark Shuey Sr., the American Canemaster and his company Canemasters.
Grand Master Shuey Sr. Created the American Cane System Martial Art and hand carves custom hardwood Canes from practice Canes to intricately carved Custom one of kind Canes. I collaborated with Grand Master Shuey studying his American Cane System as well as his Cane Ja Combat Cane System. As my work with Grand Master Shuey continued the events of 9/11, 2001 had a huge impact on my customer base as I began teaching multiple corporate groups, security professionals and military groups in Warrior Combat Cane.
In 2010 I was asked to demonstrate my Warrior Combat Cane System to the Marine Corps and their Marine Corps Martial Arts Program Instructors at Marine Headquarters, Quantico Virginia. Once I demonstrated the System to the Marine Corps they asked if I would teach it to the Wounded Warrior Regiment of the Marine Corps.
I began teaching Wounded Marines at Camp Pendleton, the Naval Hospital in Balboa, Twenty-Nine Palms and at Brooks Army Medical Center as well as the VA Hospital in Dallas. As I kept traveling and donating my time and the Canes that Grand Master Shuey Sr. was carving for my System I realized that I could not sustain the training per the need and created the Warrior Cane Project, a 501.c.3 non-profit so that people could donate money so that I could get more Canes carved to provide to our Wounded Warriors and Veterans.
Since 2010, with the help of Grand Master Shuey Sr. and some of my other Instructors we have been able to provide custom hardwood Canes and training to over 1,000 Wounded Warriors and Veterans. We need help raising more money because we are limited to only being able to train our Wounded Warriors and Veterans per the Canes we have available. Please donate any amount and your donations will go directly to the production of the Canes.
